Dr. Laurie Grunebaum
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Providing Clinical Evaluation and Psychotherapy Services In Connecticut
I am a clinical psychologist licensed in New York, Connecticut and Illinois with over 25 years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues. I have specialized expertise in the treatment of eating disorders, anxiety disorders, OCD, depression, developmental trauma, event trauma, and early adult to later adult developmental issues/life transitions. These include infertility, adoption, pregnancy, parenting, relationship issues, divorce, women's sexual health and menopause.
I am integrative in my approach to treatment. This means that I use all theoretical orientations and interventions uniquely tailored to the needs of each patient. This individualized approach helps each person take control over debilitating symptoms, feelings, and self defeating patterns that hold them back from living satisfying emotional, social and professional lives.
I would describe myself as warm and easy to relate to. Clients find me to be approachable and non-intimidating. My style is interactive with a high level of feedback and participation, a critical ingredient related to clients’ engagement and overall satisfaction with the therapy experience. Research shows that the relationship with the therapist is the most important ingredient for a successful treatment. Therefore, I want all my clients to feel that the relationship with me is the fit that they need to make the changes that will make them feel more positive and at peace with themselves.
Professional Appointments & Affiliations
I have held a clinical faculty appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Yale School of Medicine since 1999, where I supervise Ph.D. candidates in clinical psychology as part of their required psychotherapy training.
I also have long standing professional memberships with the following organizations: American Psychological Association, The National Eating Disorders Association, EDReferral.com, the OC Foundation and North Star Consulting Associates, a group specializing in adoption related issues.
Clinical Training
I received my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Graduate and University Center of the City University of New York, and completed my Internship and Fellowship at the Payne Whitney Clinic of the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in New York City, now renamed New York Presbyterian-Weill-Cornell Medical Center.
I have done research in the area of attachment, which informs my clinical practice. This is particularly important, as insecure attachment is a major source of relationship issues in adulthood.
